For Brendan & Lisa Gale, Speedy Spanners started with something simple — a passion for helping people and a determination to build a business the right way.
Back in 2012, the pair began operating from a single mobile service van, working long hours, building relationships, and earning a reputation for honest, reliable workmanship. Through hard work, genuine care for their customers, and a commitment to quality service, Speedy Spanners steadily grew into the trusted local business it is today.
In 2017, Brendan & Lisa purchased a historic garage in the beautiful town of Serpentine — a building deeply woven into the area’s history and community spirit.
Originally built in 1934 by Harvey Hicks and known as “Hicks Garage,” the building once held a special place in the town. Harvey famously owned the only telephone in Serpentine at the time, with the line known simply as “Serpentine 1.” During wartime, locals would gather inside these very walls to hear updates and news from the war — making the building not just a garage, but an important part of the community’s story.
Today, Brendan & Lisa feel incredibly privileged to continue that legacy into the future.
Since taking ownership, the workshop has been lovingly renovated and expanded while still maintaining the welcoming country charm that makes it so special. Speedy Spanners has grown from a mobile mechanic service into a thriving workshop and community hub where customers are treated like family.
Adding to the experience is the much-loved on-site café, “Small Torque Coffee House,” proudly operated by their great friends Samy & Kini. Whether you’re waiting for your vehicle, catching up with friends, or simply passing through town, you’ll find great coffee, delicious sweet treats, pies, and a relaxed atmosphere.
With plenty of outdoor seating, friendly faces, and a dog-friendly environment, Speedy Spanners is more than just a mechanical workshop — it’s a place built on community, trust, and genuine country hospitality.
So next time you’re in Serpentine, be sure to stop by and say hello 😊
